Combining Rover and Triumph into the Specialist Division for the Britsh Leyland Group in 1971, they were actioned to create a new vehicle for the group, which would become the Rover Specialist Division Number 1, or SD1, for short, but a very long process for the car to finally be produced in 1976. In 1985 Jean-Louis Schlesser driving this wonderfully liveried Rover took the crown in the hotly contested French Supertourisme series.
